On October 14 in 1927 Player Roger Moore was born. An English actor, he was renowned for his portrayal of the secret agent James Bond. The third actor to play Bond in the popular movie series, Moore held the role in seven feature films, Live and Let Die (1973), The Man With the Golden Gun (1974), The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), Moonraker (1979), For Your Eyes Only (1981), Octopussy (1983), and A View to a Kill (1985) - the most for any actor to play the dashing intelligence officer known as 007.
On television, Moore played the lead role of Simon Templar, the title character in the British mystery thriller series The Saint (1962–1969).
Moore was appointed a Unicef Goodwill Ambassador in 1991 and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II in 2003 for services to charity. In 2007, he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions to the film industry. He was made a Commander of the Order of Arts and Letters by the French government in 2008.
He is also credited with inspiring the Walls Magnum ice cream. In the 1960s, he reportedly said that his one wish would be for a chocolate ice cream on a stick. Walls created this product and sent one to Moore. They later launched the Magnum in 1989, which is now the world's top-selling ice cream brand.
Moore died at his family home in Switzerland on 23 May 2017. Former 007 actors Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig all paid tribute to Moore at his passing.
